The Magna Plaza has been brought back to “culinary” life with the launch of a food department with 14 mouthwatering food stands and three bars on the second floor of one of the most iconic buildings in Amsterdam, right behind the Dam Square (for the international readers).
You’ll find a beer garden serving speciality beers at high tables, a cocktail bar with a view of the Royal Palace, and a central bar surrounded by high windows where guests can look out over the bustling streets of Amsterdam city centre.
When it comes to the interior design for The Food Department admire the balance between the architectural features of Amsterdam’s former main post office with its new function as a food hall. From several seating throughout the space to food stands at the open kitchen, which always feels more homely.
Bepita – Israelian Pita Kitchen
Bepita Pita Kitchen
Is an Israelian kitchen where daily fresh ingredients are used. I couldn’t get enough of the pita bread. They make it fresh on the spot.
Finger-licking good and highly recommendable. Do try the mushrooms with hummus and tahini or Aarais (lamb kebab and pickles)
Dimsum District
With their roots in the successful street food restaurant Shanghai Bistro, DIMSUM DISTRICT brings a menu filled with dishes like dim sum and stuffed bao buns to share. Though, the sharing could be a challenge.
Matts Wonderland
The wonderland of Matts is filled with American classics with a modern
twist. A variety of hotdogs, over-the-top milkshakes and well-seasoned fries. A
one-way ticket to Matts Wonderland, please!
Petit Gâteau
Born in Paris but adopted by Amsterdam. Loving the Petit Gâteau’s tiny
tartelettes. The freshly baked tarts are accompanied by sweet treats like red
velvet cake, macarons and éclairs. Desert anyone?
Brut de Mer
A daily supply of fresh oysters, crispy calamari and an exceptionally
delicious lobster roll – something’s definitely fishy at Brut de Mer. With
quality being of utmost importance, they promise always to find the right
product for the right season.
Ta Toru
All of the tastings were amazing but one of my favorites was Ta Toru. A Moluccan kitchen where everything is made with love from scratch. The chicken and Goat sticks were exquisite (see below) next to the signature nachos of fried banana chips. Highly recommendable.
A cool food gem in the heart of the city and definitely worth trying.
