Pro Beauty interview with MUA Romy de Borst

I met Romy a few years ago, when I was at the other end of the brush doing a photoshoot for glossy Magazine Flair. Romy de Borst is a much requested make-up artist in the Netherlands. It is a great pleasure to work with her. I interviewed her about her beauty rituals!

MOYM: How long have you been in the cosmetic/ beauty industry?
RDB: I worked in a hairsalon for 10 years. Then, in 2006, I did the course of the HouseOfOrange Make-Up-School.
After that I got my first ‘jobs’; assisting for many make-up artists & hairstylists. In 2009 this resulted in working for the HouseOfOrange agency as a make-up artist & hairstylist.

MOYM: What project or publications are you working on at the moment?
RDB:Last week I did a free-work photo&video serie. I really love doing the free-work projects because of the passionate and motivated people you work with, it’s really inspiring.

MOYM: What is your personal beauty ritual?
RDB: Beachspray for my hair and then blowdry with my car heater 🙂

MOYM: Which make-up products you can’t live without?
RDB: I could not live without my pencils & cream make-up products.

MOYM: Which Dutch designers or photographers have you worked with?
RDB: Wow, a lot ! For some of them I worked in teams, but here we go: Iris van Herpen, Jan Taminiau, Claes Iversen, Bibi v/d Velden, Ilja Visser, Dennis Dien, Tony Cohen, Winde Rienstra, Marcel van der Vlugt, Allard Honigh, Gilbert Francois, Erwin Olaf, Duy Quoc Vo, Oof Verschuren, Paul Bellaart, Eric van den Elsen, carli hermes.

MOYM: As a Laura Mercier addict, which products do you love working with?
RDB: I love working with the primers, the Iluminators, Caviar sticks and the Eye primers, and….. and….. and…

MOYM: Name 3 easy to apply make-up tricks for every day women.
RDB:  1. Mind tip: looking beautiful is great, but feeling beautiful is even better. 2. Apply a little bit of gloss on your eyelid and cheakbone for a fresh and healthy look. 3. If you go to a party in your best dress with gorgeous make-up & hair… don’t forget your feet.

MOYM: Are there products you are crazy about, and not (yet) available in the Netherlands?
RDB: Bioderma and Homeoplasmine, I always buy these products in Paris.

MOYM: Where do you want to be in three to five years?
RDB: I don’t have a particular goal or time schedule… I’m feeling more comfortable to take one step at a time, and really try to live in the moment. Could be enjoying a day at work as well as having a great time with my boyfriend, family & friends.

MOYM: If there was only one thing you could take on holiday, what would that be?
RDB: My Boyfriend, ha ha!
