Pro Beauty interview with MUA Liselotte van Saarloos

Liselotte van Saarloos is a much requested make-up artist in the Netherlands. It is a great pleasure to work with her. I interviewed her about her beauty rituals!

MOYM: How long have you been in the cosmetic/ beauty industry?
LVS: I have been working as a Make-Up Artist for 7 years now.

MOYM: What project are you working on at the moment?
LVS: I mostly work on fashion photo-shoots for different magazines and designers and on runway-shows. But I also do advertisement and commercials. Also I started a make-up brush line that features high quality make-up brushes for both the make-up professionals as well as make-up fanatics.

MOYM: What is your personal beauty ritual?
LVS: For the daytime and evening: A dab of concealer, mascara, eyebrow powder, blush and lip balm.
For the nighttime: I cleanse my face thoroughly and I always make sure I moisturize well! And at least 3 times a week I put pure vitamin E oil on my face before I go to sleep and leave it to soak in. It does wonders for your skin!!

MOYM: Which make-up products you can’t live without?
LVS: Concealer, mascara, brow powder, blush and lip balm.

MOYM: Which designers or photographers have you worked with?
LVS: Photographers; Petrovsky&Ramone, Duy Quoc Vo, Wendelien Daan, Jouke Bos, Marc de Groot, Carmen Kemmink, Oof Verschuren, Barrie Hullegie, Carli Hermes, Cornelie Tollens, Shamila, Pedro Dias and many more..
Designers: I have been teamed on shows for Iris van Herpen, Bibi van der Velden, Jan Taminiau, Claes Iversen, Mattijs van Bergen, Junya Watanabe, Louis Vuitton Homme, Jil Sander Homme, Kris van Assche and many more…

MOYM: Are there Laura Mercier products you love working with? Name three:
LVS: Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer, Illuminating Foundation (to mix through their other foundations)and lip glosses and stains.

MOYM: Name 3 easy to apply make-up tricks for every day women.
LVS:
1) Use a dab of concealer for a fresh looking face; under your eyes and upper inner corner of the eye and next to your nostrils and in the lip corners.
2) Use a nice rosy or peach toned blush to freshen up your color.
3) Apply your mascara on the top lashes on every lash from the outer corner to the inner corner, not missing any of the lashes. This will give you a wide open look. If you skip any of the lashes your eyes will seem smaller.

MOYM: Are there products you are crazy about, and not (yet) available in Europe?
LVS: Embryolisse Filaderme Emulsion for dry skin, Bioderma sensitive cleanser.

MOYM: Where do you want to be in three to five years?
LVS: Hopefully I will be teamed on an international make up team, under the guidance of one of the ‘greats’ like Pat McGrath, Peter Philips, or someone like them, doing fashion shows and shoots all over the globe. I would love to have an agent abroad, hopefully in New York or London or Paris. And of course I would love for the brush line to be picked up and becoming successful and to keep on developing. That would be quite a dream come true.

MOYM: If there was only one thing you could take on holiday, what would that be?
LVS: Uhm… Just one? How about three… Sun cream, mascara and cream blush!
