Make-up Artist Pro Beauty Interview with Vera Dierckx

alaia-parisbase-25cmVera is one of the international make-up artists I get to work with on a regular basis. A professional with a great sense of humor and one of the few MUA I know that is this talented when it comes to artistry. A great friend who I love to exchange ideas with. After the Alaïa fashion show which she was very excited about I thought it was time for an interview update.

AR: Vera, tell us what you are working on?
VD: Actually there are various of projects that I am working on. One of them is an commercial show for the one and only Azzedine AlaĂŻa. The looks I worked on is very flawless and natural. It comes close to where Laura Mercier stands for.

Next to that I am frequently asked for fashion shows and shoots, editorial and commercial. And I am receiving more and more requests for beautyshoots. For instance I did a fabulous campagne for Palmolive in december.

AR: So, you are out and about, running around  most of the time, what is your personal ritual?
VD: I love to use a tinted moisturiser by Laura Mercier because its quick and easy. Next to that I traditionally use a black eyeliner, mascara and a blusher. No matter how tired I am after a job, I always cleanse, use a hydrating mask like the Glamglow and a night crème to get my skin back in hydrated shape.

AR: Are there products you can’t live without?
VD: Well, there we go again. My signature is a great mascara, eyeliner, crème blush and a lip balm.

AR: I know you are a big fan of the Laura Mercier products. Do you have a top -5 you recommend?
VD: I definitely recommend the oil free primer and the bronzers. Next to that I a huge fan of the caviar eye sticks and crème blushers. The crème blushers are easy to use because they are multi- functional. I use them for the eyes, lips and cheeks.

VD: When it comes to photographers/designers there are a few I had a great time with: Philip Gay, Laurent Humbert, Marjolijn de Groot, Nicolas Kantor, Angelo Penetta, Zeb Daemen,Ralph Wenig. When it comes to designers: Azzedine AlaĂŻa is amazing.

And let’s not forget the designers at MBFWA: Elise Kim/Ilja Visser/David Laporte / Allan Vos, and the young designers in Paris like Six Lee/ Lena Lumelsky.

AR: We always talk on the phone about beauty brands that are not available in the Netherlands and/or Belgium. I have my favorites. What are yours?
VR: I love Tom Ford products. The pigments are great to work with. Next to Tom I am huge fan of Kevin Aucoin. A great mix and match. As an artist the products are travel friendly.

AR: You are one of the most successful yet modest make-up artist I know in the industry. Where do you see yourself in the coming five years?
VD: I am happy to announce that I am represented by a MUA agency in Paris. I am hoping to get my assignments and artistry work to an even higher level. The fun part is that I have always kept my passion for make-up. The urge to perform in artistry is just as big as when I started years ago. I truly love my job. Next to that I feel privileged to be a able to make a profession out of my passion.
